West Steart Farm

‘West Steart Farm’ is more than a than just a traditional Oak Framed Devon farmhouse that has been lovingly built and looked after; it is a breathtaking country horseriding retreat. We scoured the whole of Europe before deciding ‘West Steart Farm’ and the beautiful Devon hills and forests, was where we wanted to spend the rest of our lives, escorting our customers around the delights of this fantastic region.

It is hard to believe that West Steart Farm was only built in 1998 as it has been designed with the character and style of an old farmhouse. It therefore perfectly combines the charm and atmosphere of the old with the comfort and convenience of the modern. It is a working sheep farm where we are keeping to the native theme by breeding Ryeland sheep which were until recently also a rare breed but have made a resurgence in recent times and of course we hope the Dales pony will also follow this trend. We are proud of our Ryelands which we regard as the “Dales pony” equivalents of the sheep world; beautiful to look at and kind and easy to handle.

The numerous outbuildings at West Steart Farm, lend themselves ideally for both the farm and equestrian pursuits and the acres of land offer quality grazing, and varied riding over rolling hills, down steep wooded slopes, across streams past wild flowers with buzzards flying high and the deer running past. So as well as enjoying first class accommodation for you, we have first class equestrian facilities for your enjoyment.

‘West Steart farm’ provides the luxury experience of country house living that is elegant as well as warm and friendly, combined with some of the best horse riding territory Britain has to offer. We offer locally produced food, and suggest you try the local wine and ales which are just suited to the healthy appetites you’ll be sure to have after a day outside in the Devon countryside.

We are happy to tell our guests all about the secrets of the area that we love, and will help you in every way to have the perfect holiday on our perfect ponies.

Since we only offer holidays for small groups we can devote as much of our time to you as you need. The Devon Region has numerous activities (water sports, cycling, riding, walking, wine tasting to name but a few), all of which are within easy reach of ’West Steart Farm’, as well as plenty of places of interest. We are happy to help you plan your sightseeing when you are not in the saddle or for non riding friends and family.
